Digitization of historic buildings

A school in Shanghai was built in the 1800s. The old buildings in the campus need renovation. However, because they were built long time ago, the 2D drawings are quite different from the actual building. The school hopes to preserve the original state of the building completely. Therefore, it uses 3D scanning technology and InfiPoints to realize the digital preservation of historical buildings, and even reproduces 2D drawings and 3D models based on this data, which can be used in building renovation and maintenance.

The design unit used Leica 3D laser scanning equipment, and spent a half day scanning two historic buildings. After acquiring the 3D scanning data, the scanning data are accurately stitched by InfiPoints’ advanced ICP stitching algorithm, and the moving noise, mixed noise and floating noise are automatically filtered out.

The design unit uses InfiPoints cross section tool to quickly classify scanning data of different heights, and classified building facades to improve the efficiency of remaking 2D drawings and 3D models.
